Avoid These Mistakes While Taking a Dental Impression-2

In the previous article, we discussed the three most common mistakes people commit while taking a dental impression. When you are visiting the orthodontist, you can be a stranger to these mistakes. However, if you are accomplishing this job by yourself, it is important to refrain from these mistakes at latch on to the accuracy while taking an impression. The wrong impression means wrong device and wrong devices means discomfort in the mouth. Moreover, you cannot achieve the desired result. So, always remember three dental impression mistakes discussed in the previous article and the remaining we are going to discuss in this article.

Teeth Are Not Fully Seated

Base and catalyst should be mixed in an accurate proportion. Sometimes the depth of bite into the putty is not enough. In this situation, your gum line is not fully captured. The impression you take is incomplete and inaccurate. You are simply capturing only the tips of teeth and that is not enough. You have to bite gently until your teeth come to a light contact of the base of the tray. The putty should reach up to your gums.

Teeth Are Not Seated Evenly

When a dental impression is taken correctly, both the front and backside of teeth are included in it. The pressure you are applying should be evenly distributed throughout the tray while you are taking a bite. Sometimes, people miss back molars while taking the impression. This happens when teeth are seated unevenly. To get the full picture of your mouth, the orthodontist needs an accurate impression of every tooth right from its top to the gumline. The putty should be on gums at the back and front of your mouth.

Tray Is Not Centered

Before biting down, teeth should be lined up over the centre of the tray. It is helpful when you are looking in the mirror to ensure the correct position of the tray. When teeth are too forward or backwards or too far to one side then the impression you get is of no use.

Tray Is Removed Too Early

It takes time to take an impression. You need to bide your time for approximately two and a half minute. It is always better to keep it there for a little more time.  When you are taking it out early, the length of the tooth impression will be distorted. Also, you should be careful while removing the tray.

Always avoid these mistakes while taking a dental impression as an inaccurate impression is wastage.
